Universal Orlando and Epic Universe: An Advisor's Planning Guide

There is a moment, just past the gates of Epic Universe, when Celestial Park opens up around you: gardens and fountains, the curve of Stardust Racers overhead, and portals leading off to dragons, monsters, mushroom kingdoms and the Ministry of Magic. It is the moment families tell me they finally understand how much Universal Orlando has grown.

Universal is its own world, and I plan it as one, never as a side trip to Disney. You'll find the parks, hotels and quieter seasons at a glance on my Universal Orlando & Hollywood page. This guide is the conversation we would have over coffee: what has changed and the decisions that shape the trip.

What's new for 2026

  • Epic Universe has found its rhythm. The newest park is arranged as five worlds: Celestial Park at the center, then Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Dark Universe and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic.

  • Tickets changed. Universal's tickets changed for 2026, which reshapes how many days make sense and how the parks fit together.

  • A new neighborhood to stay in. Universal Helios Grand Hotel sits right at Epic Universe with its own guest entrance, and Universal Stella Nova is a walkable, relaxed-budget alternative nearby.

  • Epic after dark. Separately ticketed after-hours events offer a magical, lower-crowd way to see the newest park.

Four parks, four personalities

  • Universal Studios Florida. The original park, built around film and television, and home to Diagon Alley and Escape from Gringotts. Lovely for movie lovers and anyone who wants to step inside a story.

  • Universal Islands of Adventure. Thrill-forward and beautifully themed, with Hogsmeade and Hogwarts castle, Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and Jurassic World VelociCoaster. This is where thrill seekers light up.

  • Universal Epic Universe. Five distinct worlds that each feel like a separate trip, and a park that deserves a full day rather than an afternoon hop.

  • Universal Volcano Bay. A Polynesian-inspired water park, wonderful as a slower, sun-soaked day in the middle of an active trip, where you can float rather than stand in line.

Which Epic world suits whom

Epic Universe is not one experience but five.

  • For Nintendo fans of every age: Super Nintendo World is interactive and rewards lingering, so it is a land to explore rather than pass through.

  • For younger travelers: Isle of Berk is gentle and lovely, a soft landing for families with small children.

  • For teens who like a shiver: Dark Universe skews spookier.

  • For Potter devotees: the Ministry of Magic completes a story that now stretches across three parks.

Epic Universe has its own Express rules and its own rhythm. I shape your day around your family's single most important ride, so the energy rises and falls the way yours does.

The Wizarding World across three parks

Harry Potter now spans three lands: Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure, Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida and the Ministry of Magic at Epic Universe, with the Hogwarts Express carrying you between King's Cross and Hogsmeade Station. For true fans, it is one of the strongest reasons to give Universal more than a day or two.

Where you stay matters more than ever

The hotel you choose can change how your whole trip feels. Every on-site hotel opens select parks early, and a few include Universal Express Unlimited, which can save hours each day or turn out to be a perk you never needed. Epic Universe added a genuine new choice: the convenience of Express Unlimited, or the ease of being steps from the newest park. Choosing the hotel that quietly does the heavy lifting for your family is exactly where I come in.

Seasons with a personality

Beyond the quieter windows, each season at Universal has its own character:

  • Late winter into spring: Universal Mardi Gras brings a festive, celebratory mood.

  • Late summer into fall: Halloween Horror Nights runs on select nights, best suited to thrill-seeking teens and adults.

  • The holidays: a castle projection show and a balloon parade make it a sparkling time to visit.

  • Summer: heat and afternoon thunderstorms can pause outdoor rides, and three-day holiday weekends draw local and school crowds.

Questions worth asking

  • Which parks truly matter to you? The answer shapes your ticket and your hotel.

  • Express Unlimited, or steps from Epic Universe? Each suits a different trip.

  • Who is traveling? Thrill seekers, little ones and Potter fans each need a different day.
